At the end of February, t<\/span>he Canadian ETF Industry\u00a0<\/span>reached<\/span>\u00a0a\u00a0<\/span>new\u00a0<\/span>record<\/span>\u00a0high of<\/span>\u00a0$270 billion<\/span>\u00a0in assets under management<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The number of ETFs listed in Canada continues to grow as we welcome\u00a0<\/span>the World\u2019s first\u00a0<\/span>B<\/span>itcoin<\/span>\u00a0ETF<\/span>. Once\u00a0<\/span>more, Canad<\/span>ian regulators prove to be more accepting\u00a0<\/span>of disruptive investment products.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>In the U.S, a<\/span>pproximately ten<\/span>\u00a0Bitcoin<\/span>\u00a0ETFs have either been rejected or are still waiting\u00a0<\/span>approval<\/span>\u00a0by<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>t<\/span>he SEC<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Will the success of the\u00a0<\/span>Canadian-listed\u00a0<\/span>B<\/span>itcoin<\/span>\u00a0ETFs pa<\/span>ve<\/span>\u00a0the way for\u00a0<\/span>our U.S. counterparts?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In only two days of trading, t<\/span>he\u00a0<\/span>Purpose\u00a0<\/span>Bitcoin<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>ETF attracted over $420M in assets under management.\u00a0<\/span>It<\/span>\u00a0will invest directly in physically settled\u00a0<\/span>Bitcoin<\/span>, not derivatives, allowing investors easy and efficient access to the emerging asset class of\u00a0<\/span>cryptocurren<\/span>c<\/span>y without the associated risk of self-custody within a digital wallet.\u00a0<\/span>The ETFs<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>charge<\/span>\u00a0management fees of 1% each.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shortly after, Evolve\u00a0<\/span>Funds Group introduced\u00a0<\/span>the Evolve\u00a0<\/span>Bitcoin<\/span>\u00a0ETF<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>In order to compete,\u00a0<\/span>Evolve<\/span>\u00a0slashed the management fee on\u00a0<\/span>its\u00a0<\/span>B<\/span>itcoin<\/span>\u00a0ETF from 1% to 0.75%<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Several other providers\u00a0<\/span>have plans to join the\u00a0<\/span>B<\/span>itcoin<\/span>\u00a0ETF<\/span>\u00a0frenzy, including CI Global Asset Management that only charges 0.4<\/span>0<\/span>%<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in<\/span>\u00a0management fee.\u00a0<\/span>In less than a month of trading,\u00a0<\/span>B<\/span>itcoin<\/span>\u00a0ETFs are shaking the investment community and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a fee war<\/span>\u00a0is already taking place<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The next race is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>who\u00a0<\/span>will<\/span>\u00a0launch the World\u2019s first\u00a0<\/span>Ethereum ETF. Evolve Funds Group and CI Global Asset Management<\/span>\u00a0have already filed preliminary prospectus and are waiting for approval.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In other new\u00a0<\/span>lau<\/span>n<\/span>ches<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>SmartBe<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>introduc<\/span>ed<\/span>\u00a0a suite of Canadian and U.S. Factor<\/span>-based<\/span>\u00a0investing ETFs.<\/span>\u00a0The \u201cvalue\u201d investment style behind t<\/span>he\u00a0<\/span>SmartBe<\/span>\u00a0U.S. Quantitative Value Index ETF (<\/span>SBQV-NE<\/span><\/b>) and the\u00a0<\/span>SmartBe<\/span>\u00a0Canadian Quantitative Value Index ETF (<\/span>SBCV-NE<\/span><\/b>)<\/span>\u00a0emphasizes investing in securities that are considered undervalued, based on quantitative analysis compared to other securities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The \u201cmomentum\u201d style of investing underpinning t<\/span>he\u00a0<\/span>SmartBe<\/span>\u00a0U.S. Quantitative Momentum Index ETF (<\/span>SBQM-NE<\/span><\/b>) and\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>SmartBe<\/span>\u00a0Canadian Quantitative Momentum Index ETF (<\/span>SBCM<\/span><\/b>-NE<\/span><\/b>)<\/span>\u00a0emphasizes investing in securities with higher recent total return performance than other securities.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of its commitment to helping investors reach their long-term goals,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>TD Asset Management reduced the management fees on six of its broad market index TD Exchange-Traded Funds<\/span><\/span>. After these management fee reductions, the TD ETFs will be among the lowest priced broad market index exchange-traded funds in Canada.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
